Booge in love :)What can I say? She's very pretty AND she's a ninja! She's also heroic and compassionate. If nothing else, Taki would make me an ideal partner.

Awwww, Ninja Booge like Shakespeare! And I think we may have made a love connection - my work here is done.

zuul
RE: Taki of Soul CaliburHmmm... It seems to me a bit odd to pull insights on the intelligence and stuff of a character from a beat-em-up game. Reminds me of my old ambition to make an essay out of anything, when I was a wee lad, about 14 or so. Even pulled one about the exploitation and human condition in "Chucky Egg" on the ZX Spectrum. And THAT was a simplistic one screen platform game, where you collected eggs in a hen house.
RE: Taki of Soul Calibur
Hi there!

In regards to your question concerning how one is able to draw that much inference from a beat-em up character, I was really quite surprised that you didn't understand how this process could be done. Drawing inferences about a real person or fictional character is something we do all the time even with a minimal amount of data.

Let's take a real life example, consider the following description, a person named Jones. Not much to go on right ? Now lets add in a little more data. Doctor R. L. Jones. Education: graduated Indiana University Medical., several licence certifications and has worked at Mayo clinic for 7 years.

From this bit of info it can be deduced that Jones is probably bright. Why? Because Jones is a doctor, and Jones graduated from a good medical school. Jones is probably also dedicated since it takes a degree of dedication to become a doctor.

Clues to Jones competency as a doctor are indicated by Jones being board certified in several areas which means that Jones has been tested rigorously in regards to competency. Finally, one can conclude that Jones is probably both competent and intelligent since Jones did a stint at Mayo clinic. Why? Doctors who have worked there are usually both bright and competent! Other inferences about jones could be drawn as well from this data however the above inferences should be sufficent for this example. (One inference we cant draw is whether Jones is a male or a female since the name Jones gives no clue. ^u^)

Now let's talk about Taki, we actually have a little more info about her than Dr. Jones. Taki is a generic asain women in red spandex type of material. Taki appears physically fit and uses swords. What else do we know about her ? She's been trained in martial arts, subcategory; ninja. What is her occupation?: Demon hunter. Is she successful? Yes, she is a Master grade demon hunter.

Now we must remember that Taki is a fictional character so you have to judge her within what references you can find. First off, Taki, is portrayed as an expert martial artist, Why? Well they used black belt martial artist and motion captured their moves. Thus the basic character's moves for the game are in part based off of real artist and Taki's moves conveys that fact. What else do we know about expert in martial arts both real and fictional? They are seldom portrayed as being stupid. Also, given the skills they have to master, and their need to be able to assess and react to threats very quickly, most martial artist probably intelligent.

What else do we know about Taki? Well.... we know Taki is also a ninja. Ninja's are traditionally portrayed as using stealth, guile and cunning in their profession. The use of stealth and guile calls for a degree of intelligence. Taki is also a successful ninja thus she must have the intelligence to master these skills.

Another thing we know about Taki is that Taki is a demon hunter. While this is not a typical profession in the real world, it does exist time and time again in fiction. In such stories, demons are almost always portrayed as intelligent, devious, and powerful. Given these characteristics of a demon, a demon hunter who is not very smart would wind up dead very fast.

The above facts and other data which are portrayed in the SoulCalibur universe easily give insight into Taki's and the other SoulCalibur characters strengths, weakness, intelligence etc. Thus, in spite of your surprise it's quite really easy to define Taki's intelligence even if it is only a "beat-em up" game.

KV

CostumesIn the marketing section, you say that because she's wearing a skin-tight suit, she's being marketed to the male population.
Her second outfit isn't low-cut (which you didn't seem to mention), and does it automatically follow that because she's wearing a low-cut outfit (her first outfit), that she's made to appeal to a male audience?
I mean, her attitude is rather no-nonsense, serious, and ready to get down to the business of fighting, so it's possible she has a reason for the low-cut, other than appealing to the men.
Maybe ventilation or some-such reason.

However, in the appearance section, you say that her skin-tight suit makes sense, with regard to the freedom of motion she needs for her style (which I agree with).

Is she damned if she does, and damned if she doesn't?
